1. I'm not interested in anything you have to say right now…
2. Only my opinion matters, so listen to me!
3. You've offended me so I deserve to be angry with you.
Reminds me of the comments section under the hot topic of discussion on Instagram or the latest 'Twitter beef'… Sadly, you'd be hard pressed to find many meek or mild tempered people on social media amongst the many polarising conversations.
So, what does it mean to demonstrate meekness, not just online but in our day to day relationship with Christ?
Know this, my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God. Therefore, put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:19
On one hand there’s the person who’s not receptive to the word of God. They pick and choose what they like based on their own preferences. They’re pretty defensive and don’t appreciate anyone calling out their behaviour. They seem to have a problem with authority who speak over them.
Does any of that sound familiar?Surely we should remember the limitations of our knowledge and understanding and therefore desperately desire the word of God to help to realign of attitudes and behaviours.
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Are we teachable? Are we trusting in God and completely committing our actions to him? Even if it means we don’t get the final say or get one over on our enemies?
