Start the Year with Peace

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year! Our final instalment in the series comes from Shantelle Johnson.

If I could define 2018, it would be 'organised chaos'. Like a beautiful swan it may have seemed like I was gliding across the lake with everything under control, but really I was scrambling like an exhausted and out of shape duck underneath!

Before Jesus died he told the disciples "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid" John 14:27.

So, what does the world give us? Mindfulness. Meditation. Me time. Me, me, me! It's so easy to fall into this trap of relying on self centred things to provide us inner peace and mental wellbeing.

Contrary to popular belief the peace we desire can't be satisfied with our own meagre attempts. Are we really trying to outdo a Prince…? 🤷🏽

Remember, Jesus promised the disciples to leave them with peace just before his death on the cross. The same peace he would have felt despite knowing what was to soon come. The torture his body would endure and the weight of the worlds sin on his shoulders.

So I encourage you to remind yourself and completely rely on the peace that only a Prince, a ruler, a King, a leader, a Saviour can bring. Look up and away from what's going on around you and find rest in a peace that can't be achieved from 10 top tips found on Google.

Now, I'll still be the list Queen and attempt to be well prepared in 2019 but I'll be reminding myself that when things don’t go to plan or challenges are on the horizon, Isaiah foretold of a Prince who can calm the storms of life so that ultimately He may be glorified through it all.
