Everlasting Father

December 28, 2018

This week Sarah Stone brings the fourth instalment on the foretold descriptors of Jesus, as described in Isaiah 9.

On behalf of the YAN team we would like to wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas!

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

His name will be called... Everlasting Father

The word ‘father’ holds many connotations, influenced by culture, society and our own personal experience. These connections may be positive or negative however many of us have an idea of the characteristics a good father should possess; one who shows love, guidance, wisdom and correction to name but a few.

Isaiah, when talking about Jesus the Messiah gives us an indication of His character in calling him the Everlasting Father.  Now although we may be able to conceptualise and identify examples of a really good father, it might be tricky to conceptualise a perfect one; all the characteristics a good father possess Jesus is this and more.  All the good gifts a father can give their children, Jesus himself is this and more. The concern fathers have over their children’s lives and wellbeing, Jesus has for us in a far deeper way, so much so that when we miss the mark He is forever advocating to His Heavenly Father for us.

This season, you maybe taking some time out to spend with loved ones. Regardless of how you are spending it, let us also take some time to reflect on the characteristics of Christ being an Everlasting Father to us all, thanking God the Father for this precious gift.
